Development as an artist:
I began painting seriously in my mid 20’s. I began selling my work within 2 weeks of starting, and exhibited in both Jersey and London with Mulgrave Galleries, in addition to other Galleries in Chichester, Southampton, and Bolton.
I developed, and continue to develop, on a self trained basis through private study, observation of other painters’ work, and through the constructive comments of other artists, gallery proprietors and clients.
In terms of main occupation, for years I pursued the career paths outlined in the earlier sections of this CV, painting in the evenings and at weekends-when time permitted. Then at the age of 44 my life circumstances changed enabling me to return to Jersey and pursue my long held ambition to become a painter. This has enabled me to take my commercial success to a higher level commensurate with being able to paint full time.
Since pursuing painting on a full time basis there has been much interest in my work through local galleries. I have taken part in specific exhibitions and private & corporate clients have asked for specific commissions. In addition to consistent general sales of my work, I would highlight the following main landmarks:
-
July 2004: Participating Artist, Studio 18 Summer Exhibition.

October 2004: Private Commission for UK resident: View of la Corbiere Point.

I have a particular interest in the techniques of old masters (Turner, Rembrandt and the Impressionists) as well as more modern painters (especially Ken Howard, Fred Cuming & John Yardley). I paint almost exclusively in acrylic on hand primed board, seeking to capture iconic images that speak of the feel and ambience of a local landscape and seascape. My aim is not only to paint a picture that looks like its subject, but also to create a painting that causes the viewer to feel that they are in that place.
